George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician and businessman who served as the 43rd president of the United States, from 2001 to 2009, and the 46th governor of Texas, from 1995 to 2000. The eldest son of Barbara and George H. W. Bush, he was born in New Haven, Connecticut. After graduating from Yale University in 1968 and Harvard Business School in 1975, Bush worked in the oil businesses. He married Laura Welch in 1977 and ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives shortly thereafter. He later co-owned the Texas Rangers baseball team before defeating Ann Richards in the 1994 Texas gubernatorial election. Bush was elected president in 2000 after a close and controversial election, becoming the fourth president to be elected while receiving fewer popular votes nationwide than his opponent. Bush is the second president to have been the son of a former president, the first having been John Quincy Adams. He is also the brother of Jeb Bush, former governor of Florida. 1. Language: English. So many people were sure that Donald John Trump’s participation in the 2016 presidential election was just a publicity stunt, a joke, an effort to gain attention. Many were certain that surely this man, who has no experience in politics, wouldn’t follow through and pursue the country’s highest political office. Donald Trump had an exciting campaign for the presidency: from his investigation and instigating of opponent Hillary Clinton to his seemingly never-ending promises for success after the election. In Trump Revealed: A Great President? we will first offer a short biography of who the 45th president of the United States is, followed by facts about his presidential campaign trail, Trump’s goals for the 45th presidency, the election results of the 2016 presidential election, and what was accomplished during Donald Trump’s first year in office as the United States of America’s 45th President. Trump Revealed: A Great President? evaluates the Trump presidency from the announcement of his candidacy to October 2017 (almost through to the end of the first year of his presidency). Including quotes and tweets from President Donald Trump, while taking a neutral standpoint to clearly display a brief biography of Donald Trump and his political goals, the information contained within this audiobook leaves it up for you to decide the following: Is Donald J. Trump truly working for the American people or just working towards benefiting his own personal legacy? Is Donald Trump taking the presidency seriously, or is this position of power the result of a publicity stunt gone too far? What was Donald Trump trying to prove on the campaign trail? What is he trying to achieve in office? Has he achieved some of his goals while holding office as the 45th president of the United States of America? And lastly, is Donald Trump really doing as he promised and making America great again? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Glynn Amburgey. John Adams was the leading political figure from New England during the American Revolution, the Constitutional Conventions, and the early presidential races. John Adams was on the Committee of Five chartered to draft the Declaration of Independence. He led the movement to appoint Thomas Jefferson as the drafter of the Declaration, helped steer the draft through the political groups established to review it, and forever after proclaimed it to be the leading document in American history. Likewise, Adams worked closely with James Madison to draft the Constitution and get it approved by the Constitutional Convention. For his service, John Adams was selected as the first vice president of the United States, serving under George Washington. After Washington retired after two terms, John Adams became the second president of the United States and later lost the election of 1800 by a whisker, to his long time friend and political ally/opponent Thomas Jefferson. This recording was done by Sam Goodyear, who regularly appears in plays about Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Abigail Adams in which they review their lives together just before both Adams and Jefferson died - on the same day, July 4, 1826 - 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was released. The Adams/Jefferson letters are considered the outstanding political correspondence of that time. Mr. Goodyear's performance attests to that conclusion. This audiobook also features a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a document dear to Mr. Adams. A brief biography of John Adams is also narrated by Mr. Goodyear. 1. Language: English. Reeling from the recent murder of her husband as well as allegations of police misconduct, Detective Superstition "Sue" Davis is thrown into an undercover assignment. She must infiltrate the Mexican narcotics cartel responsible for the death of her husband in order to get close to the cartel's sociopathic enforcer, Jiménez "Jimmy" Garcia. But when the entire Garcia family is killed in Mexico by a US Special Forces raid gone wrong, Garcia will stop at nothing to get vengeance, including triggering newly acquired bombs on American soil. 100 Nasty Women of History: Brilliant, badass a...

One hundred fascinating and brilliantly written stories about history's bravest, baddest but little known 'nasty' women from across the world. In the final debate of the 2016 US presidential election, Donald Trump leaned into the microphone as Hillary Clinton spoke about Social Security and called his opponent 'such a nasty woman'. The phrase has stuck around and has since become something of a badge of honour for women around the world. What better time than now, then, for us to look back and learn a thing or two from the 'nasty' women of the past? Compiled and written by BuzzFeed writer Hannah Jewell, 100 Nasty Women of History contains profiles of women from across every century, race and continent, united in the fact that they were all a bit 'nasty'. From third-century Japanese empress Jingu to 20th-century British social reformer Octavia Hill, these are the women who were bold and powerful but maybe put people (men's) backs up by being so. 100 Nasty Women of History is an accessible, intelligent, hilarious (and sometimes sweary) guide to the history-making women whom you probably don't know - but definitely should. 1. How Wars End: Why We Always Fight the Last Batt...

In 1991, the United States Army trounced the Iraqi army in battle, only to stumble blindly into postwar turmoil. Then, in 2003, the United States did it again. How could this happen? How could the strongest power in modern history fight two wars against the same opponent in just over a decade, win lightning victories both times, and yet still be woefully unprepared for the aftermath? Because Americans always forget the political aspects of war. Time and again, argues Gideon Rose in this penetrating look at American wars over the last century, our leaders have focused more on beating up the enemy than on creating a stable postwar environment. What happened in Iraq was only the most prominent example of this phenomenon, not an exception to the rule. Woodrow Wilson fought a war to make the world safe for democracy but never asked himself what democracy actually meant and then dithered as Germany slipped into chaos. Franklin Roosevelt resolved not to repeat Wilson's mistakes but never considered what would happen to his own elaborate postwar arrangements should America's wartime marriage of convenience with Stalin break up after the shooting stopped. The Truman administration casually established voluntary prisoner repatriation as a key American war aim in Korea without exploring whether it would block an armistice - which it did for almost a year and a half. The Kennedy and Johnson administrations dug themselves deeper and deeper into Vietnam without any plans for how to get out. Drawing on vast research, including extensive interviews with participants in recent wars, Rose re-creates the choices that presidents and their advisers have confronted during the final stages of each major conflict from World War I through Iraq. He puts listeners in the room with U.S. officials as they make decisions that affect millions of lives and shape the modern world - seeing what they saw, hearing what they heard, feeling what they felt. 1.
