One of the most famous partnerships in literature yields, over time, to a peculiar romantic triangle. Sherlock Holmes. Dr. John Watson. And the good doctor´s second wife, whom Doyle never named. In L.A. Fields´s novel, Mrs. Watson is a clever woman who realizes, through examining all the prior cases her husband shared with the world´s greatest consulting detective, that the two men shared more than adventures: they were lovers, as well. In 1919, after the pair has retired, Mrs. Watson invites Holmes to her home to meet him face to face. Thus begins a recounting of a peculiar affair between extraordinary men. ´´You are such a unique person,´´ Holmes says poisonously. ´´What a shame that history will most likely never remember your name.´´ The question Mrs. Watson faces: did Holmes simply take advantage of her husband´s loyalty and love, or did the detective return those feelings? And what to do now that the pair are no longer living together at Baker Street and Watson has other claims on his affections? My Dear Watson offers readers a romance that requires as much reasoning to puzzle out as it does passion. Mrs. Watson proves a worthy opponent - in intellect, in guile, in conviction - for the great detective. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Melissa Hearne. One of Cosmopolitan’s Most Anticipated Books for 2018 From Jo Piazza, the best-selling author of The Knock Off, How to Be Married, and Fitness Junkie, comes an exciting, insightful novel about what happens when a woman wants it all - political power, a happy marriage, and happiness - but isn’t sure just how much she’s willing to sacrifice to get it. Charlotte Walsh is running for Senate in the most important race in the country during a midterm election that will decide the balance of power in Congress. Still reeling from a presidential election that shocked and divided the country, and inspired by the chance to make a difference, she’s left behind her high-powered job in Silicon Valley and returned, with her husband, Max, and their three young daughters, to her downtrodden Pennsylvania hometown to run in the Rust Belt state. Once the campaign gets underway, Charlotte is blindsided by just how dirty her opponent is willing to fight, how harshly she is judged by the press and her peers, and how exhausting it becomes to navigate a marriage with an increasingly ambivalent and often resentful husband. When the opposition uncovers a secret that could threaten not just her campaign but everything Charlotte holds dear, she has to decide just how badly she wants to win and at what cost. A searing, suspenseful story of political ambition, marriage, class, sexual politics, and infidelity, Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win is an insightful portrait of what it takes for a woman to run for national office in America today. In a dramatic political moment like no other, with more women running for office than ever before, Jo Piazza’s novel is timely, engrossing, and perfect for listeners on both sides of the aisle. 1. John Adams was the leading political figure from New England during the American Revolution, the Constitutional Conventions, and the early presidential races. John Adams was on the Committee of Five chartered to draft the Declaration of Independence. He led the movement to appoint Thomas Jefferson as the drafter of the Declaration, helped steer the draft through the political groups established to review it, and forever after proclaimed it to be the leading document in American history. Likewise, Adams worked closely with James Madison to draft the Constitution and get it approved by the Constitutional Convention. For his service, John Adams was selected as the first vice president of the United States, serving under George Washington. After Washington retired after two terms, John Adams became the second president of the United States and later lost the election of 1800 by a whisker, to his long time friend and political ally/opponent Thomas Jefferson. This recording was done by Sam Goodyear, who regularly appears in plays about Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Abigail Adams in which they review their lives together just before both Adams and Jefferson died - on the same day, July 4, 1826 - 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was released. The Adams/Jefferson letters are considered the outstanding political correspondence of that time. Mr. Goodyear´s performance attests to that conclusion. This audiobook also features a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a document dear to Mr. Adams. A brief biography of John Adams is also narrated by Mr. Goodyear. 1. Language: English. In the second book in The Hundredth Queen Series, Emily R. King once again follows a young warrior queen´s rise to meet her destiny in a richly imagined world of sorcery and forbidden powers. Though the tyrant rajah she was forced to marry is dead, Kalinda´s troubles are far from over. A warlord has invaded the imperial city, and now she´s in exile. But she isn´t alone. Kalinda has the allegiance of Captain Deven Naik, her guard and beloved, imprisoned for treason and stripped of command. With the empire at war, their best hope is to find Prince Ashwin, the rajah´s son, who has promised Deven´s freedom on one condition: that Kalinda will fight and defeat three formidable opponents. But as Kalinda´s tournament strengths are once again challenged, so too is her relationship with Deven. While Deven fears her powers, Ashwin reveres them - as well as the courageous woman who wields them. Kalinda comes to regard Ashwin as the only man who can repair a warring world and finds herself torn between her allegiance to Deven and a newly found respect for the young prince. With both the responsibility to protect her people and the fate of those she loves weighing heavily upon her, Kalinda is forced again to compete. She must test the limits of her fire powers and her hard-won wisdom. But will that be enough to unite the empire without sacrificing all she holds dear? 1. Language: English.
