Political analyst and Democratic campaign veteran Mark Hannah gives Barack Obama the victory lap he deserves in this compendium that takes the president´s critics head-on and celebrates the president´s many underappreciated triumphs. Barack Obama´s election in 2008 was a watershed moment in American history that inspired supporters on the Left - and fired up enemies on the Right. Elected in the midst of multiple crises - a Wall Street meltdown that imperiled the global economy and American troops entangled in two foreign wars - Barack Obama´s presidency promised from the start to be one of the most consequential presidencies in modern American history. Although he stabilized the economy and restored America´s prestige on the global stage, President Obama has been denied the credit he deserves, receiving instead acidic commentary from political opponents such as former vice president Dick Cheney, who declared that Obama was ´´the worst president in [his] lifetime´´ - an accusation that reflects the politics of resentment and recrimination that has come to characterize the president´s critics. In The Best Worst President, Mark Hannah swiftly and systematically debunks conservative lies and disinformation meant to negate the president´s accomplishments and damage his reputation - baseless charges too often left unchallenged by the national media. The Best Worst President is a whip-smart takedown of these half truths and hypocrisies, each refuted in a smart, witty, fact-based style. Hannah not only defends the president but showcase his administration´s most surprising and underappreciated triumphs - making clear he truly is the best ´´worst president´´ our nation has ever known. 1. In this election caper from a leading political operative and commentator, a cynical campaign manager finds his family skeletons coming out of the closet on the eve of the convention. New Orleans, July 2016: It´s hot and sticky, and JD Callahan is fighting the campaign of his life. His candidate, the sitting vice president, is neck and neck with an anti-immigrant right-wing populist as the Republicans head into their first brokered convention in decades. Callahan, a New Orleans native without much affection for his hometown, is frantically trying to coordinate the convention and round up delegates when his estranged brother shows up, asks for an inconvenient favor, and threatens to reveal embarrassing family secrets if JD says no. Soon after, a series of bombs sets off a mass panic and tilts the convention toward the vice president´s law-and-order opponent. As JD scrambles to contain the damage, he finds himself contending with a sexy, gun-toting local gossip columnist, an FBI agent convinced that JD is cynical enough to set the bombs himself, and a host of family secrets. The Innocent Have Nothing to Fear is a hilarious, sharply entertaining whodunit and a knowing satire of our political culture - the perfect summer listen for everyone who says he´s sick to death of the 2016 campaign but can´t stop reading and listening about it. 1. He’s the president with the asterisk by his name: Richard Milhous Nixon, the only US president to resign from office. But Richard Nixon’s legacy to the history of the US is much more complicated than the scandal of Watergate. His is the classic story of American legend - a young man who rose from his humble roots to achieve power and influence. This audiobook will teach you about: The ´´Have-Not” Nixon Nixon rising Vice President The Election of 1960 President at last Watergate Nixon in disgrace Much more Nixon´s story has tinges of Horatio Alger, but also of Machiavelli, and that may be the enigma of him, the student who was offered scholarships to Ivy League schools but couldn’t afford to go there, forever embedding within him the resentment against his political opponents, such as John F. Kennedy. Nixon was the politician who helped to bring the Republican Party back into power after the Roosevelt years, but who didn’t shy away from ´´dirty tricks” in order to win election. He was the dogged, diligent candidate who had his facts in order, but couldn’t compete on television with the telegenic JFK, the anti-communist who negotiated treaties with the Soviet Union and opened the door to China, the president who experienced abuse during the Watergate investigation, and the rehabilitated elder statesmen of American politics in the post-Watergate years. Was Nixon a villain or a hero? Meet the president whose personality consisted of conflicting layers of pragmatism, patriotism, and self-doubt, which caused a fall from grace that roiled American democracy. 1. Language: English. John Adams was the leading political figure from New England during the American Revolution, the Constitutional Conventions, and the early presidential races. John Adams was on the Committee of Five chartered to draft the Declaration of Independence. He led the movement to appoint Thomas Jefferson as the drafter of the Declaration, helped steer the draft through the political groups established to review it, and forever after proclaimed it to be the leading document in American history. Likewise, Adams worked closely with James Madison to draft the Constitution and get it approved by the Constitutional Convention. For his service, John Adams was selected as the first vice president of the United States, serving under George Washington. After Washington retired after two terms, John Adams became the second president of the United States and later lost the election of 1800 by a whisker, to his long time friend and political ally/opponent Thomas Jefferson. This recording was done by Sam Goodyear, who regularly appears in plays about Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Abigail Adams in which they review their lives together just before both Adams and Jefferson died - on the same day, July 4, 1826 - 50 years after the Declaration of Independence was released. The Adams/Jefferson letters are considered the outstanding political correspondence of that time. Mr. Goodyear´s performance attests to that conclusion. This audiobook also features a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a document dear to Mr. Adams. A brief biography of John Adams is also narrated by Mr. Goodyear. 1. Language: English.
