Rethinking the Ethics of John - Implicit Ethics...

Ethics is a neglected field of research in the Gospel and Letters of John. Judgments about even the presence of ethics in the Gospel are often negative, and even though ethics is regarded as one of the two major problem areas focused on in 1 John, the development of a Johannine ethics from the Letters receive relatively little attention. This book aims at making a positive contribution and even to stimulating the debate on the presence of ethical material in the Johannine literature through a series of essays by some leading Johannine scholars. The current state of research is thoroughly discussed and new developments as well as new possibilities for further investigation are treated. By utilizing different analytical categories and methods (such as narratology) new areas of research are opened up and new questions are considered. Therefore, aspects of moral thinking and normative values can be discovered and put together to the mosaic of an implicit ethics in the Johannine Writings. More familiar themes like the law or deeds in the Gospel are reconsidered in a new light, while the ethical role of the opponents or the ethical use of Scripture are explored as new avenues for describing the dynamics of ethics in the Gospel. The ethical nature of the Letters is also considered, focusing not only on the theological nature of ethics in the Letters, but also on the ethical impact of some rhetorical material in 1 John. The culminative result of these series of essays is to illustrate that the ethical material in the Gospel is not as absent as was believed by many in the past. The essays not only open up a wider spectrum of Johannine ethical material but also invite further exploration and research in this much neglected area of Johannine studies.

Is Stonehenge a stone hinge? As early as 10,000 years ago, early man knew of parallel universes. Not from quantum theoretical models but from face-to-face interaction with their denizens. Over the last 30 years, television series and movies focused on the public´s thirst for inexplicable phenomena. The growing number of books devoted to works explaining everything from UFOs to Stonehenge are testaments of continuing and increasing interest. Each theory is specialized, honed to explain a specific mystery. Each generates more opponents than supporters. What if a single theory unified and explained a majority of these enigmas? What if the same theory reached back into our past and demonstrated ancient people dealt with these same mysteries? Otherworld presents such a theory, a theory born from a single question: What if Stonehenge really was a stone hinge? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Kenneth Bryant. Never before has the incendiary mix of action, politics, and intrigue that has become Timothy Zahn’s trademark, been more evident that in this new Star Wars epic. On the heels of the stunning events chronicled in Star Wars: A New Hope, the newly minted heroes of the Rebellion - fledgling Jedi Luke Skywalker, smuggler turned reluctant freedom-fighter Han Solo, and Princess Leia Organa, a bold leader with a world to avenge - must face the harsh realities of the cataclysmic conflict into which they have so bravely plunged. From this point forward, legends will grow, treachery will abound, and lives will be irrevocably altered, in the long, hard fight to counter the fist of tyranny and restore hope to a galaxy too long in darkness. The destruction of the Death Star by the Rebel Alliance was a decisive blow against the Empire, but Palpatine and his monstrous enforcer, Darth Vader, are no less of a threat. The brutal extermination of Alderaan not only demonstrated the magnitude of their murderous power, but served as a chilling testament to their resolve to crush the Rebel uprising. Standing against them, Skywalker, Solo, and the Princess remain uncertain opponents. Luke is gifted and brave, but unschooled in the power he possesses. Han has doubts about waging someone else’s war - and his contentiousness is one more burden for Leia to bear as she struggles to help keep the Rebellion alive. The three have been sent to mediate a dispute between Rebel Alliance factions in Shelsha Sector - agitating matters by forcing Han to deal not only with pirates, but with his more dreaded enemy, politics. At the same time, Mara Jade - all of eighteen and years away from her fateful meeting with Luke - is serving her evil master, Palpatine, well in her role as the Emperor’s Hand: tracking suspected treachery in the Empire to what may be high places - while trying to stay out of Darth Vader’s way. But the Rebels will prove to be only one of the Empire’... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Marc Thompson. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/rand/003550de/bk_rhde_002536_sample.mp3. God Against the Gods: Storytelling, Imagination...

How God Captures the Imagination. This book was previously released with the title, Myth Became Fact: Storytelling, Imagination & Apologetics in the Bible. Brian Godawa, Hollywood screenwriter and novelist, explores the nature of imagination in the Bible. How God subverts pagan religions by appropriating their creativity and redeeming them within a biblical worldview. Improve your imagination in glorifying God and defending the faith. Here are the chapters, and what you will learn: Demonizing the Pagan Gods: God verbally attacked his opponents, pagans and their gods, by using sarcasm, mockery, and name-calling. He called them what they really were: demons. Demonization is not wrong if they really are demonic. Old Testament Storytelling Apologetics: Israel shared creative images with their pagan neighbors: The sea dragon of chaos, and the storm god. The Bible invests them with new meaning. Biblical Creation and Storytelling: creation stories in the ancient Near East and the Bible both express a primeval battle of deity to create order out of chaos. But how do they differ? The Universe in Ancient Imagination: a comparison and contrast of the biblical picture of the universe with the ancient pagan one. What´s the difference? New Testament Storytelling Apologetics: Paul´s sermon to the pagans on Mars Hill is an example of the apologetics of subversion: communicating the gospel in terms of a pagan narrative, with a view toward replacing their worldview. Christian imagination and apologetics work together. Imagination in Prophecy and Apocalypse: God uses imaginative descriptions of future events to intentionally obscure his message from unbelievers, while at the same time showing the true meaning of history to believers. This will help you understand the end times better. An Apologetic of Biblical Horror: learn how God uses th... 1. Language: English. Narrator: Brian Godawa.
