Excerpt from Otis´ Letters in Defence of the Hartford Convention and the People of Massachusetts IN presenting to the public this collection of mr. Orls´ letters upon the Hartford Convention, we do him no more than justice in declaring our conviction that he has amply redeemed his promi ses. He has demonstrated not merely the moral, but the physical impossibility of a secret combi nation, so often charged on that assembly; and though obliged to refer to facts and events which transpired during the war, he has forborne reviving topics of controversy, and has provided an armour for the defence of the honor of the State, which even his political opponents need not be backward to put on. Expectation too may be entertained that the brow beaten and calculating friends of the primitive plan of the Convention, (if any such there be) who have kept aloof and borne with exemplary fortitude censures in¿icted on their agents, will no longer be ashamed or afraid to put in a word, though a com mendable prudence may forbid their taking up a Cudgel in behalf of their old Forlorn Hope. There´s one attorney that rubs Peter and Suzi the wrong way most: Mister Morris Arthur, the most devious opponent they´ve ever faced in court, and one that they feel has been complicit in actions from murder to kidnapping - and getting away with it each time. But this time he attempts what attorney Peter Sharp, his young legal ward Suzi, and even Peter´s bitter ex-wife Myra feel is the worst offense: getting one of their small group of close associates in trouble with the law. They draw their line in the sand, and as far apart as Peter and his ex-wife who is now the county´s top prosecutor have become, they decide to join forces to put an end to this rogue lawyer´s despicable behavior both inside and outside the courtroom. His actions have gone unpunished for previous crimes, and he is now on the verge of succeeding in trying again in two other crimes, so it´s unanimous: he must be stopped. The only way they can succeed in stopping Morris Arthur is by tricking him and his clever attorney into painting themselves into a corner in trial, a position from which there is no favorable way out, and their success or failure may depend on a mistake made by Suzi while having a telephone conversation with the person soon to be the one that´s framed. You will enjoy the give-and-take dialogue and legal maneuvering of district attorney Myra Scot Sharp and Morris Arthur´s attorney during a civil trial that Myra hopes will result in forcing Arthur to admit his committing of two recent crimes that he is framing someone else for, especially when the surprise witness of the century is called to the stand, a person whose appearance even shocks Peter. If you enjoy shows like Law & Order you´ll surely appreciate this book, especially because unlike the TV show, it hasn´t been ´´ripped from the headlines´´. It´s been crafted by a real trial attorney. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: B.J. Harrison. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/078447de/bk_rhde_002536_sample.mp3. Tecumseh´s reputation among Americans has been both the most unique and anomalous. As the leader of the Shawnee, Tecumseh was the most famous Native American of the early 19th century, and he attempted to peacefully establish a Native American nation east of the Mississippi River in the wake of the American Revolution. While Native Americans, especially in the ´´old Northwest´´ (present-day land west of the Appalachian Mountains and east of the Mississippi River), understood and recognized their own long-established territories and those of other tribes, these boundaries and territories were ignored and unappreciated by the incoming settlers. Together with his brother, Tenskwatawa, Tecumseh was in the process of forming a wide-ranging Native American confederacy that they hoped would stem the westward flow of Anglo-American settlers and essentially establish a ´´nation´´ of Native Americans that would be recognized and accepted by the advancing European-American settlers. Throughout his life, Tecumseh had experienced the effects of encroachment by white settlers as his family and his people were forced from their ancestral homelands and wandered westward several times, finally settling in Missouri. As settlers continued to encroach further west, however, Tecumseh stood firm and ready to fight them. Before America fought Britain in the War of 1812, they were engaged in Tecumseh´s War around the Great Lakes. The fighting made the Indian leader famous and made a military hero (and eventually a president) out of William Henry Harrison, whose victory at Tippecanoe is considered the end of that war. Undeterred, Tecumseh allied with the British during the War of 1812 against the Americans, and he continued to fight on until he was killed at the Battle of the Thames. Without their leader, Tecumseh´s Confederacy began to disintegrate rapidly. Despite being one of their most tenacious opponents, Tecumseh almost immediately became a celebrated folk hero and res... ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Weippert. The third exciting novel starring the unforgettable antiquities thief Owl - a modern-day ´´Indiana Jane´´ who reluctantly navigates the hidden supernatural world. From the pen of rising urban fantasy star Kristi Charish (Owl and the Japanese Circus), and for fans of Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, Jennifer Estep, and Jenn Bennett and fantasy lovers everywhere. The International Archaeology Association (IAA) is responsible for keeping all things supernatural under wraps. They´re also responsible for ruining the promising archaeology career of Alix Hiboux, better known as Owl. Needless to say, Owl´s still a little sore about that. Just to keep Owl´s life lively, the IAA has opened a bounty on the two designers of World Quest, the online RPG that is much, much more than it seems. Owl needs to locate the notorious gaming duo before the other mercenaries do. But finding the gamers won´t be easy since every clue points to them hiding out in the legendary lost city of Shangri-La. Not to mention that the last time Owl and the game designers spoke, their conversation didn´t exactly end on the best note.... Meanwhile, undercurrents of supernatural politics are running amok in Tokyo, dragging Owl and her friends into a deadly game of wits with an opponent who calls himself the Electric Samurai. The cost of losing? All-out civil war between two powerful supernatural factions. All in all, just another great day on the job. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Christy Romano.
